The National Foundation for Credit Counseling® (NFCC®), the nation’s largest network of nonprofit credit counseling agencies, promotes financial well-being in a new campaign addressing the unique debt management needs of small business owners and gig economy workers.
The National Foundation for Credit Counseling® (NFCC®) launched “The She in Me,” a campaign that connects entrepreneurial women with debt management and credit counseling services to enable them to reach their financial goals. Harkening the stories of several “leading ladies” of business and entrepreneurship – such as Madame CJ Walker, Oprah Winfrey and Rihanna – the campaign encourages women who may currently be in debt to be inspired by these role models and seek out the resources of NFCC member agencies to manage debt, grow their businesses and build wealth.
“For those who have fallen behind enough on payments that it’s too hard to get back on track, you are not alone,” said NFCC’s Courtney Nagle. “We talk to people every day and understand the related stress and often shame that accompanies debt. It can feel overwhelming and prevent them from seeking professional help for debt management.”
Increasingly, consumers consider small business ownership or gig economy work to accelerate their earnings and pay down debt. The Harvard Business Review reported that an astounding 17% of Black women are in the process of starting or running new businesses vs. 10% of white women, and 15% of white men. What’s more, Black women are more likely to self-fund their capital needs than any other group. Safeguarding one’s credit and managing debt are critical elements of any small business plan.
