The National Foundation for Credit Counseling ("NFCC®," "we," or "us") is committed to assuring the privacy of individuals and/or families ("you" or "your") who have contacted us for assistance. We realize that the concerns you bring to us are highly personal in nature. We assure you that all information shared orally, in writing, and online through our National Counseling Locator Service ("NCLS"TM) or any of the NFCC®'s other websites will be managed within legal and ethical considerations and in accordance with the policies described herein

FACTS WHAT DOES NFCC® DO WITH YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION?
Why? Financial companies choose how they share your personal information. Federal law gives consumers the right to limit some but not all sharing. Federal law also requires us to tell you how we collect, share, and protect your personal information. Please read this notice carefully to understand what we do.
What? The types of personal information we collect can include:

What we do
How does NFCC® protect my personal information? To protect your personal information from unauthorized access and use, we use security measures that comply with federal and state law. These measures include computer safeguards and secured files and buildings.
How does NFCC® collect my personal information? We collect your personal information, for example, when you:
  • give us your income, account balances, credit history, employment information, or contact information;
We also collect your personal information from others, such as credit bureaus, affiliates, or other companies.
Why can't I limit all sharing? Federal law gives you the right to limit only:
  • sharing for af?liates' everyday business purposes-information about your creditworthiness
  • af?liates from using your information to market to you
  • sharing for nonaf?liates to market to you
State laws and individual companies may give you additional rights to limit sharing. See below for information on your rights under certain State laws.


Definitions
Affiliates Companies related by common ownership or control. They can be financial and nonfinancial companies.
  • NFCC® has no affiliates
Non affiliates Companies not related by common ownership or control. They can be financial and nonfinancial companies.
  • Non affiliates we share with can include your financial service providers or creditors; Member Agencies; the administrators, intermediaries, or other entities that fund and manage grants; and NFCC®'s service providers, agents, or representatives.
Joint Marketing A formal agreement between nonaffiliated financial companies that together market financial products or services to you.
  • Our joint marketing partners include Member Agencies.

INFORMATION FOR RESIDENTS OF VERMONT, NEVADA & CALIFORNIA
  • Vermont. NFCC® will not share Personal Information we collect on Vermont residents with affiliates or entities outside NFCC® except with their written authorization.

SECURITY POLICY

The National Foundation for Credit Counseling ("NFCC®," "we," or "us") National Counseling Locator Service ("NCLSTM) or any of the NFCC®'s other websites use extensive and sophisticated secure technology to protect your data and transmissions between you, the NCLSTM, Member Agencies, counselors, and creditors. Transmission between browsers and our web server is implemented using Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) technology. Transmissions between the NCLSTM and participating Member Agencies, counselors, and creditors are encrypted using public key cryptography algorithms with a minimum key size of 128 bits. Our database is physically separated from our web server and is protected by a physical firewall.

Although NFCC® has taken these reasonable and appropriate measures to ensure that your personal information is delivered and disclosed only in accordance with your instructions, NFCC® cannot and does not guarantee that the personal information you provide, or that Member Agencies or creditors provide about you, through the NCLSTM will not be intercepted by others and decrypted.

Additionally, be attentive to the following situations to ensure your confidentiality is not compromised:
  • if someone else has access to your computer, and is able to read email or files stored on your disk
  • if you print email on paper, and someone finds the paper
  • if you use a workplace computer - your employer has a legal right to read your email on that machine
  • if you accidentally make a mistake on the email address
  • if someone obtains the password to your email account
  • if you talk about it to someone
